MARYLAND (January 27, 2026) -- It’s with heavy hearts the AAU announces the passing of longtime AAU volunteer, Hansberry "Hansy" Moore. Moore was a Sport Director in the AAU Maryland district and dedicated his time to creating memories for young athletes. Moore volunteered time with AAU Basketball, AAU Baseball, and AAU Softball athletes in Maryland and helped to create opportunities for everyone.
“Hansy” gave generously of his time and heart. His kindness, dedication, and presence made a lasting impact on our organization and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we remember Hansy Moore and how he impacted athletes all across Maryland, we also honor his spirit of service and dedication. His passing is a loss felt by all in the AAU community.
Final arrangements are pending and will be shared when available. We hold his family and loved ones in our thoughts during this difficult time.
The AAU was founded in 1888 to establish standards and uniformity in amateur sports. During its early years, the AAU served as a leader in international sport representing the U.S. in the international sports federations. The AAU worked closely with the Olympic movement to prepare athletes for the Olympic Games. After the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, the AAU has focused its efforts into providing sports programs for all participants of all ages beginning at the grass roots level. The philosophy of "Sports for All, Forever," is shared by nearly 800,000 participants and over 150,000 volunteers.
